We impact others in many ways. How we approach a situation, our body language, our preparation, our confidence all can be “seen” when we meet someone. Our self-talk is also really important. However, it’s what comes out of our mouths that can really make a mark on another person.
When we pay attention to the things that we say, the impact on others can be great. This works in both directions, as the things we choose to point out, the positive or negative comments we make to others, can actively impact the other’s confidence, willingness to contribute, or desire to keep working for the team.
Teammates, parents, and coaches all have a real opportunity to make a difference by being intentional about how they talk to others. Use this short worksheet to gain awareness of the impact of the things you say.
