ONE Softball is here to bring you insights from experienced coaches, players, and other influencers from all corners of the game. We have the largest collection of college coaches, top professional and former college players, and youth coaches at the top of their game in our back pocket so that ONE Softball can be in your back pocket as you navigate the youth softball world and the path to college.
We asked the ONE Softball college coach Think Tank to tell us what they know about where they first saw the players that eventually ended up on their college teams.
The softball community at large often sees college coaches only on TV coaching their teams, or occasionally at a travel ball game watching competition. College coaches, however, are in many other places and working hard to find, evaluate and get to know the players that might be a good fit for their program.
Camps, tournaments, and even campus visits are ways in which a prospective player can get to know a coach and vice versa. With the new NCAA recruiting rules in effect in 2018 it remains to be seen how some of these methods are impacted.
Travel ball coaches can still be good resources for information on college programs, but the player and her family should remember that the most responsibility for fact-finding remains with her! Do you homework online, watch videos about every college you are interested in and reach out to coaches to tell them of your interest and give them your schedule.
College camps, and camps at which many colleges are represented are also good opportunities to learn about a coaching staff.
